Artificial eye

These are also known as indwelling eye prosthesis.

Prosthesis - is an artificial replacement for a missing part of the body.

Indwelling - replacing the lost eye with a prosthesis when the eye lids are present.

An artificial eye would be used in the case of congenital, damage/trauma or surgical removal of the eye due to disease resulting in the need to restore tissue loss and facial aesthetics.

Or alternatively replacing an existing artificial eye.

Scleral Shell

These are also known as Cosmetic shells.
A Cosmetic shell would be worn over an existing blind or unsightly eye and would also restore tissue loss and facial aesthetics.
In both cases the movement of the prosthesis tends to be very good and will in fact move in conjunction with the opposing eye but perhaps not to the same full lateral excursions.

Conformers

Conformers are used post surgery and act as a space maintainer during the healing process.
These are usually a stock item fitted at the time of surgery but can be custom made if required.
A temporary prosthesis can also be made at this stage if required prior to a permanent prosthesis being constructed.

Socket Expanders

Socket expanders would be used in the case of shrunken socket where the space available for the placement of an artificial eye is no longer adequate.
These can also be used in the treatment of children where it may be necessary to enlarge the socket simulating the natural growth of the face restoring symmetry in adulthood.

Testimonials

I have just returned from my visits where I was given corrective treatment from Mr Brett Flavell.

I would like to express my thanks and appreciation for the manner in which Mr Flavell handled my case. He discussed the whole subject with me in a friendly yet professional manner and I left feeling that I had experienced a really enjoyable interview - an entirely satisfactory thankyou.

Brett made me a new artificial eye, he took an impression of my eye socket and proceeded to paint the eye whilst in the consulting room with me, he showed me the eye both during and after he had finished and then carefully fitted. This was an experience i had never had before. I had always been left on my own "wondering".

The colour match of the iris etc with my existing eye is wonderful!

Brett was keen to achieve an overall 'soft' effect, having unobstrusively made mental notes whilst we talked at the beginning. I am certainly delighted with the eye in every way - colourmatch, overall effect and comfort. Brett is a very kind and caring young man. He made what has sometimes, in the past, been an unpleasant experience, into a very happy time.

Without any hesitation, i thoroughly recommend Mr Brett Flavell himself and his skills to anyone who needs an artificial eye.
